Why a Great Place

After having lived in and built almost 40 of the homes in this wonderful community I can share my opinions, which I’ll do.  I am curious what others love about this great neighborhood.

Here are my thoughts:

  1. The principals of Traditional Neighbhorhood Design (TND) are truly at work here.  What I mean by that is the walkable streets, the big front porches, the smaller lots and the fact that you pick up your mail at a centralized locations create opportunities for neighbors to interact.  They get to know each other, look out for each other and build great neighborhood friendships.
  2. Middleton Hills is one of the few areas of new construction in the entire area that is walking distance to all schools.  Just across the street from the Northwest corner of the neighborhood is Northside Elementary School, 2 blocks south of the south entrance is Kromrey Middle School and 4 blocks from there is the Middleton-Cross Plains High School.
  3. The commercial center is truly an asset to the neighborhood.  One of the great aspects of a TND is the fact that it should not only be walkable, but you should be able to walk to many of the basic services needed on a daily basis.  This being said a vibrant commercial center is a necessity of achieving this goal.  That came about in 2006 with the completion of the Copp’s Grocery Store and the ancillary businesses that sprang up around it.  You can now find 2 coffee shops (Starbuck’s and Prairie Cafe), a dry cleaner, 2 hair salons and a pizza place all within walking distance of any home in the neighborhood.
  4. The homes were built to specific standards and a blended style.  This is no “cookie cutter” neighborhood where every house has basically the same shape, color and demographic of the folks living in it.  But everything that was built was built with exacting standards to the 3 styles of home decided to be common in a by gone era here in southern Wisconsin.  Each home constructed, as well as the condominiums, commercial and multifamily buildings were required to be of the Prairie Style, Arts and Crafts or Bungalow.  These 3 styles evoke a sense of a by gone time when life was simpler and people truly knew their neighbors.
